Milestone Vehicle Sale Effort Helps Support Puerto Rico

In a milestone effort to help Puerto Rico reap the benefits of federal surplus property programs, GSA’s Northeast and Caribbean Region recently sold 42 used vehicles to local governments on the island.

The vehicles, formerly part of the federal fleet on the island, included a mix of sedans, minivans, SUVs and cargo vans that were sold to the local government at competitive prices. The federal sale provided them with a means to seize opportunities that resulted in savings for their local taxpayers.  In addition, by selling the vehicles on the island, the federal government avoided hefty transportation and logistical charges by not needing to ship the vehicles back to mainland U.S. for sale. It was truly a win-win for all involved.

Northeast & Caribbean Regional Administrator Denise Pease is GSA’s representative on the President’s Task Force on Puerto Rico, and the region has been extremely instrumental in overseeing this collaborative effort that includes the GSA Federal Acquisition Service Customer Accounts and Research Division, Personal Property Management Division, and Fleet Management Division. The main objective of the task force is to enable Puerto Rico to take advantage of the available resources and opportunities that GSA offers.

The GSA team has been able to support key objectives within this initiative. They have been able to double the donation rate and increase the amount of available federal surplus property in Puerto Rico. This helps the local government save money and obtain valuable property to serve the citizens of Puerto Rico.
