Small Business Saturday, Nov. 25, presents a great opportunity to show your support for these engines of economic growth and innovation. It is a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for our communities. You can participate by shopping at a small business near you.

Small Businesses are Valued Partners

GSA expands opportunities for small businesses by making it easier for them to do business with the federal government. Contracting with small businesses is a win-win for both the federal government and the small business community. The government receives great service at great value, while small businesses have a chance to grow their businesses and create jobs.

GSA’s Office of Small Business Utilization provides training, counseling, and promotes nationwide procurement opportunities. Recently, GSA received an “A” grade from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for its work expanding opportunities for small businesses around the country. GSA awarded $1.6 billion to small businesses in Fiscal Year 2016, representing nearly 40 percent of eligible contract dollars, exceeding the agency’s 36.5 percent prime contracting small business goal and all prime contracting subcategory goals.

In addition to assisting the federal government with managing operations, small businesses play a vital role in driving economic growth. Since 2014, small businesses have created two out of three net new jobs according to a report by the SBA.
