Maintenance, Repair & Operations Supplies (MRO)

Strategic sourcing was developed to leverage purchasing power across the entire federal government as a more economical way of doing business. Federal agencies are able to purchase strategically sourced supplies at discounted prices and realize savings.

The Maintenance, Repair & Operations Supplies (MRO) purchasing strategic sourcing solution was established to save time and money, with goals to:

  • Offer uniform prices;
  • Measure total cost savings;
  • Capture transactional data to aid in managing agency MRO spend;
  • Reach socio-economic goals;
  • Drive regulatory compliance including AbilityOne and Trade Agreements Act; and
  • Provide sustainable solutions.

As strategic sourcing is evolving to Category Management, the acquisition approaches that have generated solutions are coming together in the categories that allow government purchasers to get a view of all possible solutions for a streamlined way to obtain products. The MRO strategic sourcing solution is part of this initiative and is found on the Acquisition Gateway information portal, under the “Industrial Products and Services” Hallway.

About the MRO Purchase Channel Solution

The federal government currently spends almost $1.6 Billion a year on MRO supplies. In partnership with numerous federal agencies, both military and civilian, GSA has established multiple Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPAs) to address this spend volume. Awarded contractors meet socioeconomic factors such as Women Owned Small Business, Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, and Small Disadvantaged Business. The MRO solution offers agencies a better way to purchase commonly used products. These are staples needed on a daily basis when working on aircraft and vehicles, or even repairing building areas. Thousands upon thousands of choices are available, split into three categories:

  • Hardware
  • Tools and Tool Cabinets
  • Paints, Adhesives and Sealants

Agencies can order products and access pricing through GSA Advantage!®, FedMall, or contractor-operated websites. In addition, agencies may contact vendors directly or visit brick-and-mortar stores, where applicable. Purchases for MRO products are made by using the federal SmartPay® 3, government purchase card, or purchase order.

GSA’s Disaster Purchasing Program allows state and local governments to buy supplies and services directly from all GSA Schedules to facilitate recovery from major disaster or facilitate disaster preparation and response.
