Reimbursement of Special Per Diem Allowance for travel to Sea Island, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island (Glynn County) and Savannah (Chatham County), Georgia, where lodging and meal rates have increased as a result of the G-8 Summit. This special per diem rate applies to claims for reimbursement covering travel during the period February 1, 2004 through August 1, 2004, for U.S. Government employees and members of the uniformed services attending and/or participating in the G-8 Summit. BACKGROUND. Title 5 United States Code, § 5702 permits the Administrator of General Services to establish per diem rates for official travel within the continental United States. The head of an agency may request the establishment of a higher rate when special or unusual circumstances result in an extreme increase in subsistence costs for a temporary period The Secretary of State requested establishment of such a rate for the areas named in paragraph 1 and 3 to accommodate employees and members of the uniformed services who perform temporary duty at the subject locations due to a significant increase in lodging and meal costs due to the escalation of such expenses during the G-8 Summit. MAXIMUM RATE AND EFFECTIVE DATE. The Administrator of General Services has increased the maximum daily amount that may be reimbursed for lodging, meals and incidental expenses for official travel to Sea Island, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island (Glynn County) and Savannah (Chatham County), Georgia, during the period February 1 through August 1, 2004. The maximum rate of Sea Island, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island is $230 for lodging and $54.00 for meals and incidental expenses not to exceed $284.00. The maximum rate for Savannah (Chatham County) during the period February 1, 2004 through August 1, 2004, is $230 for lodging and $43 for meals and incidental expenses not to exceed $273.00 EXPIRATION DATE.
