The Homer Thornberry Building, located in downtown Austin, Texas, was originally built in 1965 as a postal facility. Renovation in the early 1990's converted the post office into a courthouse and federal building.
The granite-clad building consists of three full and one partial fourth floor comprising 178,223 square feet. It is named after former Judge and Congressman, William Homer Thornberry. The building is part of a master facility that includes a large plaza and is connected by tunnel to the J.J. Pickle Federal Building. The two-building complex makes a strong federal presence in downtown Austin and is near the State Capitol building.
