Going Green: Sustainability and Climate Updates from GSA

Addressing climate change is a triple win for America. For the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), tackling climate change means:
- Creating clean-energy jobs;
- Saving taxpayer money through reduced energy costs; and
- Building a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous future for the next generation.
Every day, we move forward on these goals, step by step. Over the last several weeks, we showed our commitment to sustainability through innovations and leadership announcements:
Electrification of Federal Fleet
On July 12, GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan visited Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she discussed GSA and Biden-Harris Administration efforts to electrify the federal fleet. She also announced GSA's new website called "Fleet Electrification," a one-stop-shop to provide resources for federal agencies to easily find information about electric vehicle charging infrastructure, buying zero-emission vehicles, and more.
Energy and Water Efficiency Investments
On August 3, Administrator Carnahan joined White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Brenda Mallory and Congresswoman Nikema Williams at the Sam Nunn Federal Center in Atlanta, Georgia. They announced new energy and water efficiency investments, which promote the Biden-Harris Administration's efforts to make the federal footprint more sustainable and cost-efficient.
Jetta Wong, New Climate Advisor
GSA appointed Jetta Wong as Senior Advisor to the Administrator on Climate. Jetta has a wealth of experience, including her time spent at the Department of Energy, where she launched the National Laboratory Impact Initiative in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and established the Department-wide Office of Technology Transitions to help ensure the long-term commercial impact of the agency's $14 billion R&D portfolio.
Major Milestone on Calexico East Port of Entry Bridge Expansion Project
GSA and the Imperial County Transportation Commission announced that they have reached a critical construction milestone for the bridge expansion project at the Calexico East Land Port of Entry. Over the coming months, the construction team will pour 8,500 tons of concrete that emits lower carbon, cracks less, and lasts longer.
EPEAT Purchaser Award
For the fourth year in a row, GSA IT has won the 5 Star EPEAT Purchaser Award for excellence in sustainable procurement of IT products and services. The EPEAT Award, given annually by the Global Electronics Council, recognizes organizations that purchase and sell sustainable and environmentally friendly electronic products.
