eTravel Takes Off!

The eTravel Service (eTS) is a new, governmentwide, web-based travel management tool. It applies world-class practices to streamline and consolidate federal travel operations into a simplified, end-to-end travel management service.

One of President Bush's E-Government Initiatives, eTS reached a major milestone on November 10, 2003, when contracts were awarded to three vendors after a rigorous, eight-month review process that GSA conducted in collaboration with 22 other agencies. These three 10-year contracts—worth $450 million combined—are expected to cut federal travel management costs by as much as 50 percent.

From travel planning and authorization to reimbursement, the service embraces best commercial practices to use the Internet effectively and empower the federal traveler—all at a substantially lower cost to the taxpayer. It will be commercially hosted to minimize technology costs to the government.

Civilian agencies will have eTS available to them in the first quarter of the 2004 calendar year. Agencies may choose among any of the three vendors.
