GSA Unveils Recovery Act Fuel-Efficient Cars

The General Services Administration delivered three fuel-saving cars purchased with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to federal agency officials during a ceremony at Chicago’s Navy Pier July 29.

GSA Deputy Administrator Barney Brasseux and GSA Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Jim Williams joined representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Navy to unveil the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, E85 Dodge Caravan, and Ford Fusion Hybrid.

These vehicles are representative of the 17,205 new Chrysler, Ford and General Motors vehicles purchased by GSA under the Recovery Act to update the federal fleet. Delivery of the new vehicles is scheduled throughout the summer.

Each new fuel-efficient vehicle replaces, on a one-for-one basis, operational motor vehicles in the federal inventory that met replacement standards. In all the newly procured fleet is 10 percent more fuel efficient that the fleet it replaces, providing long-term environmental benefits and savings.

The event was held in conjunction with the FedFleet 2009 Expo, co-sponsored by GSA. FedFleet is the only conference dedicated to improving the efficiency of the nation’s government-owned vehicle and aviation fleets.
