WASHINGTON – With upbeat music and lyrics accompanying an engaging video featuring family and friends, a father of two from Nashville, Tennessee, has won’s first-ever video contest to demonstrate how the award-winning web portal to government information can help citizens. On February 22, GSA launched the YouTube video challenge, which called on citizens to create a video that uniquely showcases how makes it easier to find vital government information. Peter Sullivan won $2,500 for his efforts.

GSA used the video contest to capitalize on new media that allows the public to share and showcase creativity. Contestants were challenged to produce a video that would inform citizens of the ways in which could help citizens easily access U.S. government information and services. provides information and links to more than 10,000 pages of federal, state, and local government information. Information on student loans, child care, small business licensing regulations, visa information, and much, much more are available through This website makes it easy for the public to get U.S. government information and services at their fingertips on the web and helps the government lead the way in Web 2.0, facilitating information sharing between the public and their government.

President Obama issued the Open Government Directive calling on the federal government to create a more transparent, participatory, and collaborative government and most recently challenged agencies to further these principles by increasing the use of prizes and challenges as tools to promote and inspire participation. GSA is helping other agencies fulfill President Obama’s Open Government Directive by working to introduce and implement a contest and prizes tool that will simplify the public engagement process for both agencies and the public.
