GSA’s Office of Citizen Services Receives Awards for MakingGovernment More Open, Transparent, and Collaborative

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2011 – GSA’s Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies received honors from three organizations, recognizing its leadership and work on improving public engagement, collaboration, transparency, and openness.

The first award and honor was the Data Heroes Award for work on, a website that provides easy access to government data. The OCSIT team supported Vivek Kundra, the first chief information officer of the United States, in developing the site. The award was from EMC Corp., a world leader in information infrastructure solutions. According to the EMC website that announced the awards, “the award honors those delivering unique and innovative solutions and techniques using data to profoundly impact individuals, organizations, industries, and the world.”

The next award was a Gold Screen Award from the National Association of Government Communicators for the website. is a place where the public and government can solve problems together by offering challenges and prizes to citizens for great ideas that solve government program issues or problems.

The third award was to OCSIT Associate Administrator David L. McClure, recognized by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Bethesda for his work on promoting cloud computing within the federal government and his significant contribution in information technology that led to increased efficiency, effectiveness, cost-savings, and leadership.

The Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies manages the Center for New Media and Citizen Engagement. Along with its Innovative Technologies organization, the group provides public engagement tools, technology, research, best practices, training, assistance, policy guidance and outreach to meet 21st century citizen expectations of participation, collaboration, and services with the federal government.
