GSA Recognized for Innovative Telework Programs

Award Honors Leadership in Expanding Telework Across the Federal Government

WASHINGTON – Today, in recognition for its innovative efforts to promote telework programs across the federal government, the U.S. General Services Administration has been awarded honorable mention at the 2011 Tele-Vision Awards from the Telework Exchange.

“As the federal government’s workplace solutions provider, GSA is leveraging its expertise to help advance the mobility of the government’s workforce,” said GSA Administrator Martha N. Johnson. “We thank the Telework Exchange for recognizing GSA’s efforts, and I want to send a special thank you to Sharon Wall, who leads GSA’s Telework Program Management Office.”

In response to the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010, GSA has established the Telework Program Management Office dedicated to pursuing telework as a means to create a more flexible and efficient government. The Telework Program Management Office is sharing its knowledge and best practices with all of the federal government.

Currently, about 50 percent of GSA’s workforce teleworks at least one day a week. Through telework programs, government employees are better equipped to use innovative technology to stay connected with their colleagues and customers. Teleworking is also aiding government in disaster response efforts and reducing the impact on our environment by reducing employees’ commutes to the office.

The annual Tele-Vision Awards ceremony is organized by the Telework Exchange. Awardees are honored for excellence in government and education telework programs. The Telework Exchange is a public/private partnership focused on demonstrating the value of telework, and serving the emerging educational and communication requirements of the federal teleworker community.
