GSA Administrator Joins Energy Listening Session, Tours St. Louis Business, and Joins Roundtable To Discuss Local Benefits of American Jobs Act

WASHINGTON - This week, senior Obama Administration official and Administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration Martha Johnson visited St. Louis to take part in a series of events highlighting President Obama’s American Jobs Act.

As the President said when he announced the American Jobs Act before a joint session of Congress, the purpose of the bill is simple: to put more people back to work and more money in the pockets of those who are working. In Missouri the plan will make immediate investments of at least $716 million in highway and transit modernization projects that could support a minimum of 9,300 local jobs, will provide tax cuts to 120,000 Missouri small businesses and will provide a $1,520 tax cut for the average Missouri household with an income of around $49,000.

Administrator Johnson capped off her trip Friday talking with small businesses at a White House Business Council roundtable, hosted by Arcturis. Discussions focused on ways the American Jobs act will benefit the local economy and create jobs in the St. Louis area. The White House Business Council is part of the Obama Administration’s ongoing commitment to communicating directly with America’s business community about the challenges they are facing and turn that input into action that can improve our economy and create jobs. The meetings also serve as an opportunity for businesses to learn about help that is available from agencies across the federal government.

On Thursday, Johnson took part in an Energy Listening Session that served as an opportunity for GSA to hear from Midwest energy industry leaders from business, academia and government on ways the federal government can leverage its purchasing power and position in the energy market to create new jobs and alternative energy capacity.

After the energy listening session, Administrator Johnson visited the manufacturing facility of BZ Products, a local American owned small business manufacturing LED light boards that are exported worldwide. While on the tour, Administrator Johnson spoke with leadership from BZ Products about how the President's American Jobs Act will help their business thrive and create new jobs in the Saint Louis community.
