GSA to Launch Next Generation Travel Management Tool

Electronic travel service for the federal government to increase transparency, efficiency and cost savings

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. General Services Administration awarded Concur Technologies, Inc. a contract to launch the next generation of the federal government’s web based travel management service. E-Gov Travel Service (ETS) is a cloud based service used by more than 90 federal agencies for travel booking and expense management. The current version of ETS, launched in April 2002, saves the government more than $20 million dollars annually.

The next generation ETS2 will build upon the successes of the original service. It will help the government consolidate online travel booking services and expense management platforms to increase efficiency, transparency, accountability and save taxpayer dollars.

“In line with GSA’s core mission to deliver cost savings solutions to federal agencies, this new service will bring efficient, cost-effective travel management strategies and deliver real savings to the taxpayer,” said GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Steven J. Kempf. “GSA has saved federal agencies millions of dollars annually by negotiating lower fares and reducing administrative costs. When you combine GSA’s market expertise with best practices from the private sector, ETS2 is positioned to transform travel savings and management across the government.”

With GSA’s first generation ETS, federal civilian agencies consolidated more than 250 costly, disconnected and independently managed travel systems. GSA’s implementation of ETS also increased the government’s use of online travel services by 63 percent, saving over $20 million annually. ETS is the backbone of GSA’s government-wide managed travel programs, allowing users to easily book travel and efficiently track spending, approvals and vouchers.

ETS2 will also allow GSA to leverage government purchasing power through in depth analysis of government wide travel data. Under the terms of the contract, Concur Technologies will provide travel planning, authorization, reservations, ticketing fulfillment, expense reimbursement and travel management reporting. The performance-based, firm fixed price contract has a 15 year period of performance, with a three year base period and three four year options. Agencies will begin deploying ETS2 in late 2012.
