San Ysidro Port of Entry: Change to Northbound Pedestrian Crossing Coming July 15th

Travelers advised to use new PedWest facility as east side capacity decreases.

SAN YSIDRO, Calif.—The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have announced changes to northbound pedestrian processing at the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry effective Friday, July 15, 2016. PedWest, the new pedestrian facility on the west side of the port, and the Virginia Avenue Transit Center will open on July 15, 2016 at approximately 12:00 p.m. PedWest includes 12 northbound and two reversible pedestrian processing lanes and will serve travelers crossing into the United States from Mexico’s El Chaparral Inspection Station.

The Virginia Avenue Transit Center will accommodate buses, taxis and privately owned vehicles dropping off and picking up passengers. The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System has two bus routes serving the Virginia Avenue Transit Center to access the Trolley. Bus Route 907 is a five-minute trip to the San Ysidro Transit Center. Bus Route 906 is a 20-minute trip to the Iris Avenue Transit Center. Pedestrians also have the option of walking 0.6 miles to the San Ysidro Transit Center using the port’s pedestrian bridge.

Additionally, processing capacity on the east side of San Ysidro will be reduced to six lanes effective July 15, 2016 at approximately 12:00 p.m. for the three-year duration of the Phase 2 construction project.

What: San Ysidro’s new pedestrian facility on the west side of the port, PedWest and the Virginia Avenue Transit Center will open for operation. Capacity for northbound pedestrian processing on the east side of San Ysidro will be reduced to six processing lanes.

When: Friday, July 15, 2016 at approximately 12:00 p.m.

Note: Due to its larger capacity, travelers are encouraged to cross at El Chaparral to the PedWest facility on the west side of the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry.
