Chicago Federal Plaza Hosts Divvy Bike-Share Program

Bike share rack on Chicago Federal PlazaThe Federal Plaza is now one of the several hundred city-wide locations for the Chicago Department of Transportation’s new bike sharing program, Divvy.

Launched in June 2013, Divvy allows commuters to rent bicycles for half-hour periods while they travel between stations while running errands or sightseeing, essentially providing a taxi alternative.

To use the system, riders can purchase a 24-hour pass or an annual membership. Anyone 16 years or older with a credit or debit card can use a bike. Within 30 minutes, the bike must be returned to a Divvy station to avoid additional fees.

Divvy also has a smartphone app showing nearby stations and the number of bikes and empty rack spaces available at each station.

The city’s nearly 4,000 powder-blue Divvy bikes – with graphic design inspired by the stripes and stars of the Chicago flag – are built to withstand daily use in an urban environment and include a front rack and flashing lights.
