Inspecting the artwork in GSA's collection

To ensure that these pieces remain an integral part of GSA’s collection, team members are in the middle of conducting the 2016 biennial art inspections, which are being held from June 1 – Sept. 1. Liz Mees, Architect and Regional Historic Preservation Officer, said “The inspections are a critical part of the work we do in maintaining the artwork.”

There are 50 different sculptures, paintings, architectural and environmental art scattered throughout the six states in Region 1. These pieces represent the culture and heritage of our country, with the earliest dating back to 1908.

During the inspections, GSA will verify the location of the pieces, assess and record the general condition of the art, confirm the responsible facility manager and identify and prioritize conservation needs and funding. Sculpture of woman blindfolding herself as a symb
