Conference Center Renamed in Honor of Former HR Director

Nick CaveHeartland GSA Employees gathered together in Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 18 to pay a special tribute to one of our longtime colleagues and friends, Nick Cave, by dedicating the regional office conference center as the "Nick T. Cave II Conference Center."

Widely remembered for his sage advice and wry sense of humor, Cave served in the agency for more than 44 years, 18 of which he spent as the Director of the regional Human Resources Office. He filled many roles at GSA: a well-respected HR expert, resident historian, colleague, mentor and friend.

Cave had a unique ability to cultivate relationships in spite of individual differences and to challenge conventional wisdom to arrive at better outcomes. He is remembered for always making time for what mattered in this life, people. Never too busy for hallway conversations, impromptu mentorship sessions, or just listening, he made his colleagues at GSA feel valued and appreciated. He enjoyed helping others succeed and brightening their moods with a smile, story and a joke.

Cave passed away on September 8, 2015, just prior to his retirement from GSA. During the dedication of the conference room in his name, family members, friends and co-workers and told of the legacy he leaves of generosity, compassion and dedication of service to his country.
