GSA Receives Funding for Renovation of Historic Courthouse in Alabama
2014 Appropriations provides $69 million for Campbell Courthouse in Mobile

The Fiscal Year 2014 Consolidated Appropriations Act allows the General Services Administration (GSA) to move forward with renovation of the existing historic Campbell Courthouse, as well as the design and construction of a new district courthouse in Mobile, Alabama. The legislation provides $69.5 million which, combined with prior year appropriations, provides $130 million for these two projects. Together the new courthouse and existing Campbell Courthouse will meet the space requirements of the Judiciary’s Southern District in Mobile.

“This funding will allow the agency to address several critical building maintenance and repair needs to support daily operations in the historic Campbell Courthouse,” said GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini. “GSA will also move forward with building a new federal courthouse in Mobile, which is a top priority for the U.S. Courts.”

Senator Richard C. Shelby said, “I am very pleased that we are now in a position to move forward on a new federal courthouse in Mobile. The new and renovated facilities will provide necessary security upgrades and promote efficiency in judicial proceedings. I am confident that this project will not only bring a new, state-of-the-art courthouse to Mobile, but also generate further economic revitalization in the downtown area.”
