GSA National Furniture Center Seeks Evergreen Award Nominations

WASHINGTON -- Environmentally conscientious businesses are invited to submit entries for recognition by the GSA National Furniture Center Evergreen Award Program. This program has been developed to highlight efforts in recycling, affirmative procurement and waste reduction in furniture and furnishings.

Entry judging examines efforts at: Waste prevention, which recognizes reduction in waste through design change, manufacturing or use of materials or products and the amount of toxicity in waste before recycling, treatment or disposal. Recycling and affirmative procurement or effective and innovative programs for purchase and use of recovered materials also are considered. Environmental preferability is another judging factor and acknowledges best examples of products and services that have a reduced impact upon human health and the environment.

Entries for the awards are due April 30, 2000, and firms interested in consideration should submit a nomination package describing positive changes in the above areas. The submissions should be limited to four pages and supporting documentation. The following information should be included: the company's name, address, phone and fax numbers, Internet address (if available) and point of contact.

The National Furniture Center in Arlington, Va., is part of the GSA Federal Supply Service. The Center supports the furniture and furnishings requirements of global federal business, with annual sales of about $1 billion. Products include general office furniture, systems and data processing and hospital furniture; dormitory and quarters furnishings at the Department of Defense Quality of Life program and carpeting.
