GSA Takes Information to Thousands of Librarians

GSA # 9495

June 17, 1998
Contact: April Kaufman

WASHINGTON -- In an effort to make it easier to find your way through the maze of government information available, several organizations within the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will come together for the 117th Annual Conference of the American Library Association at the Washington Convention Center, June 27 - 30.

GSA anticipates reaching approximately 15,000 librarians from across America at this year's convention through "Your Search Made Easy," an exhibit on ways to help locate information more rapidly. Available to discuss programs and answer questions will be GSA experts from the Consumer Information Center, Federal Information Center, Federal Procurement Data Center, Federal Domestic Assistance Catalog, GSA Library, Emerging Technology Center, and the Federal Supply Service.

Together, these organizations respond to approximately a half million inquiries every month.

"The opportunity to reach so many librarians is valuable because it gives GSA the ability to reach the people who are often the 'frontline' in an individual's search for information," said Jerry Varner of GSA's Federal Procurement Data Center. "By informing the nation's librarians of the information and services GSA provides, we will be able to help millions of people each year."

Varner said that GSA's Consumer Information Center is a valuable source of information on Federal government brochures covering everything from "How to Give Medicine to Children" and a "Guide to Health Insurance for People with Medicare" to "Buying a Used Car."
