WASHINGTON -- The U.S. General Services Administration's Federal Technology Service (FTS) has released a request for proposals (RFP) for provision of telecommunications in Chicago and San Francisco. These metropolitan area acquisition (MAA) procurements are intended to provide up-to-date, cost effective telecommunications services to all Federal agencies and other authorized users.

The RFP for New York City was released February 26, and has a projected award for the fourth quarter of this year.

The release of the RFPs is the second phase of the MAA procurement process. Pre-qualification is the first phase where vendors are evaluated on their ability to meet technical and management requirements stated in the request for qualification statements (RQS), which was released on November 26, 1997. Its purpose is to relieve potential vendors of the necessity to submit proposals for requirements that are common to all MAA procurements. The pre-qualification is a continuing process.

In the second phase, vendors are evaluated on pricing and any area-specific technical and management requirements. Comments and questions are due two weeks after release of the RFP. Proposals are due July 10 for Chicago and July 13 for San Francisco.

MAA solicitations are available on the Internet at Contact the contracting officers for additional contract-specific information by calling Phillip L. Barber, at (703) 610-2313 for Chicago; and Robert Hayhurst at (703) 610-2234 for San Francisco.
