GSA Hosts Industry Day on FTS/FSS Reorganization

Washington, DC – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) today hosted a public meeting to offer industry representatives an opportunity to share their perspective on the reorganization of the Federal Technology Service (FTS) and Federal Supply Service (FSS).

The meeting, organized by the GSA Reorganization Steering Team’s Acquisition Services Task Force and attended by over 100 representatives from industry, is part of an ongoing effort by the steering team and its task forces to gather information from key GSA stakeholders about how its organizational structure and operations might be improved. Acting FTS Commissioner Barbara Shelton and FSS Commissioner Donna Bennett, co-chairs of the Acquisition Services Task Force, heard testimony and asked questions of participating industry panelists.

“This reorganization is important for GSA to ensure that we remain a high performing and continuously improving organization, said Acting FTS Commissioner Shelton. “Gathering information from our stakeholders is essential to our success in developing the reorganization plan and we appreciate the input that we have received today.”

The FTS-FSS reorganization is intended to strengthen the capability of GSA's business lines to meet increasing customer requirements for excellent acquisition services, make it easier for industry contractors to interface with our acquisition processes, and enhance the efficiency of GSA's administrative support functions by reorganizing and combining certain activities that are now performed in separate units.  “Industry is an essential GSA partner as we support agencies, freeing up resources for them to focus on performing their missions,” said FSS Commissioner Bennett. “We appreciate industry’s input in this process and are confident and look forward to considering it as we develop the reorganization plan.”

The draft reorganization plan is expected to be submitted to the GSA Reorganization Steering Team on May 31, 2005. The final plan is expected to be completed in July 2005.

The following industry representatives provided testimony: One GSA Coalition, Coalition for Government Procurement, Women Impacting Public Policy, Unisys Corporation, White Systems, Inc.—Division of FKI Logistex, Professional Services Council, Information Technology Association of America, and Contract Services Association of America.

It also plays a key role in developing and implementing governmentwide policies. GSA’s 13,000 associates provide services and solutions for the office operations of more than one million federal workers in more than 8,000 buildings the government owns and leases in 2,000 U.S. communities.
