GSA Leader Wins National Award for Veterans Support

Washington, DC – The U.S. General Services Administration’s Mary Parks today was presented with Rolling Thunder’s Annual Veterans for Veterans Champion Award for supporting veterans at the Third Annual National Veteran Small Business Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Ms. Parks played a leading role in implementing GSA’s new Veterans Technology Services (VETS) contract, a set-aside contract for service-disabled, veteran-owned small technology firms.  She is Director of GSA’s Small Business Governmentwide Acquisition Contract (GWAC) Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

In accepting the award from Rolling Thunder’s Director of Veterans Business Affairs Michael “Scott” Golden, Ms. Parks highlighted more than her contribution.  “This award culminates a lot of hard work from GSA and other federal agencies to open up more federal contracts to veterans who are small business owners, and I’m proud and honored to accept on everyone’s behalf.  We’re all committed to providing federal business opportunities for veterans.” 

“Veterans are natural partners in GSA’s every day efforts to support our customers and provide best value for every taxpayer dollar,” said GSA Administrator Lurita Doan. ”We’re proud to be recognized for encouraging that partnership.” 

The VETS GWAC is a multiple award contract with a five-year initial term and a five-year option period available.  It has a potential overall value of $5 billion.  VETS is designed to provide cutting-edge technology solutions to federal agencies while assisting them in reaching their presidentially mandated 3 percent goal for contracting with service-disabled, veteran-owned small businesses.  A complete list of industry partners along with VETS contract and pricing information is available on the VETS GWAC website at
