GSA's FY 2007 Report Shows Decrease in Federal Building Space

Washington, DC - Federal agencies have disposed of $7 billion in unneeded property since 2004, according to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) FY 2007 Federal Real Property Report.  The report is an annual study that helps the federal government identify and analyze its real property assets.  The FY2007 report is available to the public,

The FY 2007 Federal Real Property Report provides an overview of the federal government's owned and leased real property as of September 30, 2007.  The reported data is gathered from the Federal Real Property Profile (FRPP) inventory system, a centralized and descriptive database of the government's real property portfolio, developed and managed by GSA.  

"This report is a great resource to help federal agencies manage their real property portfolios," said Kevin Messner, Acting Associate Administrator of GSA's Office of Governmentwide Policy.  "The Fiscal Year 2007 data shows that over the last year, federal space has decreased by 203.8 million square feet and federal agencies have disposed of $7 billion in unneeded property since 2004.”

Since 2004, the federal government is on track to meet the Administration's targets of cumulatively disposing of $9 billion of unneeded assets by 2009 and $15 billion of unneeded assets by 2015.

The FY 2007 Report marks the third reporting year for the governmentwide data elements as required by Executive Order (EO) 13327, "Federal Real Property Asset Management."  Issued on February 4, 2004, EO 13327 established the Federal Real Property Council to oversee the federal government's asset management planning process and to improve government real property performance.  All executive branch agencies are required to submit constructed asset-level data to the FRPP on an annual basis.
