GSA Ranks Among Top 10 Workplaces

WASHINGTON — The U.S. General Services Administration was named in the Top 10 Best Places to work in the federal government for the fourth time, according to a survey ranking overall employee satisfaction.
The ranking is produced by the Partnership for Public Service and the American University’s Institute for the Study of Public Policy Implementation.
The agency ranked eighth overall and was in the Top 10 in nine of the 10 categories used to determine the overall “2009 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government” rankings. This included first overall in Family Friendly Culture and Benefits Category; sixth in Strategic Management; fifth in Teamwork; fourth in Effective Leadership; fifth in Pay and Benefits; fourth in Work/Life Balance; sixth in Performance Based Rewards and Advancement; third in Training and Development; and eighth in Support and Diversity.
“This is great news for GSA,” said Paul F. Prouty, GSA Acting Administrator. "This achievement shows our commitment to a family friendly culture and that our employees like their work and their workplace."
GSA’s 12,000 employees manage more than one-fourth of the government’s total procurement dollars and influence the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,600 government-owned or leased buildings and 213,000 vehicles. GSA helps preserve our past and define the nation’s future, as a steward of more than 480 historic properties, and as manager of USA.gov, the official portal for the federal government.
“Our ranking as one of the ‘Best Places to Work in the Federal Government shows that we have placed high emphasis on work force engagement,” said Gail Lovelace, GSA’s Chief Human Capital Officer. “This has contributed to GSA’s ability to be in a better position, not only to attract, but also to retain talent.”
The “2009 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government” used results from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s 2008 Federal Human Capital Survey. For the 2008 survey more than 210,000 federal employees responded, a response rate of 51 percent.
