GSA Receives Clean Audit Opinion

FY ’09 Agency Financial Report Affirms Commitment to Accountability

WASHINGTON – Three days ahead of the governmentwide deadline, and again having earned an unqualified or “clean” audit opinion, the U.S. General Services Administration has submitted its fiscal year 2009 Agency Financial Report to the U.S. Department of Treasury and Office of Management and Budget.
"GSA's clean audit opinion is a testament to our commitment to managing taxpayer assets in a responsible and transparent manner,” said GSA Acting Administrator Paul Prouty.
GSA’s FY ’09 audit report includes no material weakness in regard to GSA internal controls, and no instances of noncompliance with applicable laws and regulations. In addition to the audit report, the FY ‘09 Agency Financial Report provides information on GSA programs, achievements, challenges, and efforts to support the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"We’re thrilled to receive another clean opinion, with no material weaknesses,” said Kathleen Turco, GSA Chief Financial Officer. “This audit demonstrates our continuing desire to ensure financial integrity in the business of government. We worked in partnership with GSA program and acquisition staff to ensure the proper use of our customers’ funding."
A clean audit opinion is an indication that the agency’s financial statements and accompanying notes are presented fairly in all material respects and conform to generally accepted accounting principles. It is also an indication that there are no material errors in the financial statements and accompanying notes, and is clean or free from material error.
“Achieving a clean audit opinion reflects GSA’s dedication to financial management excellence, and provides an assurance to our federal customers that proper internal controls have been implemented to safeguard the accuracy of our balances,” Turco added.
