Torre Jessup Sworn in as Regional Administrator
Installment Ceremony Marks New Era in Region 4
A new era began in the GSA Southeast Sunbelt Region with the swearing-in of Torre Jessup as Regional Administrator. The August 20th ceremony featured presentations by GSA Deputy Administrator Denise Turner-Roth, SBA Regional Administrator Cassius Butts, and GSA Regional Commissioners Erv Koehler and John Smith. Dignitaries in attendance included former GSA Regional Administrator Shyam Reddy, Charlotte City Councilman David Howard, Congressman John Lewis’ District Director Aaron Ward, Atlanta Federal Executive Board Director Ron Stephens and others.
In his address, Mr. Jessup described his life's work as that of a dedicated public servant. He stated his desire to be a “Servant Leader” – one who shares power and finds fulfillment in helping the people he is pledged to serve. Mr. Jessup encouraged Region 4 associates to continue the effort to bring best value in acquisition, real estate and technology to our client agencies – to use our core competencies to have a positive impact on government and enhance the well-being of the American people. He challenged the region to acquire more knowledge, be more efficient and “have the courage to lead.”
At the conclusion of his remarks, Mr. Jessup received the Gilded Key. Roughly analogous to getting the “keys” to the region, the Gilded Key is Region 4’s traditional welcome for each new Regional Administrator.
