Last Agency to Leave Bannister Finds New Home
July 16, 2014
GSA announced today the new leased location for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Logistics Support Center (NLSC) and National Reconditioning Center (NRC), which are currently located at the Bannister Federal Complex.
Both NLSC and NRC will relocate to a 222,500 square foot facility at 14200 Merritt Road in Grandview, Mo. The agencies will be the first tenants in a planned business and industrial park. About 80 employees work for the NLSC and NRC, which are part of the Department of Commerce. The Centers are scheduled to begin moving in fall 2015, and completing the move by year’s end.
As the last agency scheduled to vacate Bannister, the relocation helps ensure the timely transfer or sale of the Complex.
“I’m proud of the GSA team who worked hard to ensure we secured a competitively-priced location that also met the unique needs of the NOAA centers,” said GSA Regional Administrator Jason Klumb. “With our own relocation approaching soon, we remain focused on our partnership with NNSA to ensure Bannister is in the best possible position for reuse or redevelopment.”
All current Bannister Federal Complex tenants are now in the process of relocating or actively working toward vacating the facility in 2015. GSA, which owns one-third of the Complex, is expected to begin its relocation to downtown Kansas City, Mo., December 2014. The National Nuclear Security Administration, which owns two-thirds of the Complex, is expected to complete its relocation in 2015.
GSA and NNSA are working closely together to ensure the facility is in the best position possible for redevelopment. Both agencies will maintain responsibility for environmental monitoring and any required cleanup.
