Templates
The template file is the foundation for success when using any CAD platform. By starting with the template used to create projects, you can make several changes that will reduce production related tasks throughout the course of the project. Templates hold default object line weights and styles, system definitions, view templates, plotting defaults, and browser organization configurations. Too often users don’t spend the time making these adjustments, which creates additional work for during the project. A well-defined template (or group of templates) dramatically reduces the time required to setup and run a project. GSA has accumulated a series of templates by discipline (architectural, mechanical, and electrical).
In an attempt to increase productivity of BIM teams, templates for some BIM platforms have been provided. It should not be assumed that the presence of any template for any platform constitutes official support for that platform. All templates are provided only as a courtesy.
The templates are dynamic and are continuously changing. All templates are provided "as-is" and should not be assumed complete or fully compliant with standards. Everyone is highly encouraged to assist with the update and creation of BIM templates and should submit suggested changes to the listed owner.
Project Folder Structure Template
The project folder structure template is a .ZIP file which contains the required folder structure for BIM projects. It is highly suggested that projects begin by acquiring this ZIP file rather than attempting to recreate the structure manually.
Project Folder Structure - Basic.zip [ZIP - 600 KB]
- Clean set of folders, no sample data.
Project Folder Structure - With samples.zip [ZIP - 27 MB]
- Folder structure with some sample data included for reference.
