Good Neighbor Principles
The core mission of the Urban Development/Good Neighbor Program is to provide GSA’s 11 regional offices and their stakeholders with the technical resources, training, and outreach support they need to implement business practices that foster positive community development.
In order to maximize opportunities for our projects to contribute to positive community development, GSA seeks to meet the following "good neighbor" principles:
- Locate new owned and leased Federal facilities in places that support local economic development and planning goals as well as Federal sustainability goals;
- Design new facilities to deliver attractive public spaces that integrate with their surroundings and support neighborhood urban design goals;
- Renovate and revisit existing Federal properties over time to improve Federal public spaces and facility function within the neighborhood;
- Manage Federal properties as a public resource by encouraging shared public use and openness; and
- Participate in neighborhood physical and management improvement efforts around Federal projects and properties as an active civic partner in the community.
