Shared Services Vision for the Future

GSA is playing a leading role in the work to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the federal government's mission support services through the President's Management Agenda and the Cross-Agency Priority Goal for Sharing Quality Services.

This governmentwide initiative will create a mission-driven government with modern technology and services that enable the workforce to better serve the American taxpayer.

Outdated processes and technology, coupled with a culture of compliance, have created an inflexible mission-support environment. Common mission support services such as processing hiring transactions, managing finances, closing contracts, and processing payroll cost $28.6B annually. Rather than economizing by sharing across the Federal government, government duplicates contracts, people, and technology across hundreds of locations.

By scaling existing shared services and developing new standard solutions, our work will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Federal government’s mission support services.
