The GSA Mid-Atlantic Region and the Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) recently partnered to relocate Senator John Fetterman’s office from a senate-direct lease into the William S. Moorhead Federal Building in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The project improves the office’s security features while providing a long term home to meet future public access needs.
The GSA project team condensed the project schedule by securing SAA’s agreement to reuse a substantial portion of the previous tenant’s improvements. GSA developed in-house design intent drawings to accelerate the design process. The team also selected a Small Business Administration certified 8(a) construction contractor with previous experience in the building. The team saved time and taxpayer money by reusing excess furniture from GSA’s Regional Office Building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, instead of purchasing new furniture for the office.
“I want to share a special note of appreciation on behalf of all the staff who serve out of our new office space in downtown Pittsburgh,” wrote Senator Fetterman in a letter to the GSA project team. “I am so grateful for your professionalism and hard work, and for delivering this project on-time and on budget. You have built a bright and welcoming space that all Pennsylvanians are welcome to visit, and our team is proud to call home. Thank you for your dedication to the Commonwealth. I wish you the best as you continue to serve, with distinction, the people of Pennsylvania and the Nation.”
The project was completed in June 2024 after a construction period of less than four months. GSA delivered on the customer’s priority to be located in federally-owned space and concurrently improved the building utilization in a cost-effective way.
