Conferences and seminars
There are many conferences and seminars you can attend to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the mail management industry and network with other professionals. Below are some of the most popular mail management conferences and seminars.
The Interagency Mailers Policy Council (IMPC) consists of mail managers from federal agencies throughout the executive branch. The IMPC works together to identify and share mail management best practices. If you'd like further information about the IMPC or have questions about how to attend, contact federal.mail@gsa.gov.
The annual national MailCom Conference and Exhibition trade show is co-sponsored by Mail Systems Management Association and Mail Magazine. It includes vendor displays and training, and allows participants to earn Management Certificates in many mail topics.
The semi-annual National Postal Forum educational and trade show event for business mailers and key postal officials is sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service. NPF includes business sessions, networking, and an exhibition area displaying the latest products and services.
The Pitney Bowes Mail Management Seminars are offered at the basic, intermediate, and advanced levels. Topics include managing carriers, reply mail, disaster recovery, mail center security, and special services.
Mail manager certification programs
Enrolling in certification programs will help Federal Agencies' Mail Managers to stay updated on the latest skills and guidelines in order to achieve a more professional and efficient mail operation. Below are some programs you can enroll in to develop the skills of Mail Managers and staff.
The Mail Systems Management Association (MSMA) offers several certifications for mail managers. The Certified Mail and Distribution Systems Manager (CMDSM) program is designed for professional mail managers, including mail and distribution system managers; distribution, messenger, shipping, receiving, or fulfillment managers; and consultants who serve the needs of the field.
The In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association (IPMA) offers an industry-recognized Certified Mail Manager (CMM) program that establishes a professional standard of proficiency for in-plant mail managers. This program is designed for IPMA members with at least five years of management experience.
Xplor International offers three levels of certification for corporate communications subject-matter experts through their Electronic Document Professional (EDP) program.
The National Center for Employee Development (NCED) offers several courses on USPS Business Mail, including an Executive Mail Center Manager course. This course includes guidance on boosting mail center productivity and maximizing new technology to improve mail management practices in your agency.

Rates for Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. Territories and Possessions are set by the Department of Defense.
Traveler reimbursement is based on the location of the work activities and not the accommodations,
unless lodging is not available at the work activity, then the agency may authorize the rate where
lodging is obtained.
Unless otherwise specified, the per diem locality is defined as "all locations within, or entirely
surrounded by, the corporate limits of the key city, including independent entities located within
those boundaries."
Per diem localities with county definitions shall include"all locations within, or entirely
surrounded by, the corporate limits of the key city as well as the boundaries of the listed counties,
including independent entities located within the boundaries of the key city and the listed counties
(unless otherwise listed separately)."
When a military installation or Government - related facility(whether or not specifically named) is
located partially within more than one city or county boundary, the applicable per diem rate for the
entire installation or facility is the higher of the rates which apply to the cities and / or counties,
even though part(s) of such activities may be located outside the defined per diem locality.
