The GSA Mid-Atlantic Region collaborated with the Southeast Sunbelt Region to complete an emergency repair project at the Alton Lennon Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Lennon was significantly damaged by wind, rain and water intrusion caused by Hurricane Florence in September 2018. Tenants – including the U.S. District Courts, U.S. Attorneys, U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Labor – were relocated to temporary leased space that fall.
Congress approved emergency funding for repairs to this historic building as part of the Disaster Recovery Act in June 2019. The GSA cross-regional effort repaired the building envelope, repaired and replaced mechanical and electrical systems, and completed interior finishes.
The project reached substantial completion in October 2023.
