CHICAGO -- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced today the start of the public sale for the Federal Building in Bemidji, Minnesota. The decision was reached after a thorough review of options and authorities available to GSA. This action is part of GSA's efforts to make more efficient use of its real estate assets while saving taxpayer dollars.

About the Online Auction:

  • The auction is scheduled to start on August 27, 2020, at 2 p.m. CT on RealEstateSales.gov.
  • Each bidder is required to submit a bid registration of $25,000, and the minimum opening bid is $100,000.
  • Additional information about the property and the auction can be found online at RealEstateSales.gov.

About the Property:

  • Located at 522 Minnesota Avenue NW in the central business district of Bemidji, the Federal Building was constructed circa 1959-60 and was originally built as a U.S. Post Office.
  • The 50,499-square-foot, multi-level brick office building has an adjacent paved parking lot with 28 spaces.
  • The property encompasses 0.64 acre.
  • The building's lobby was renovated in 2008.

GSA Regional Administrator Brad Hansher comments:
"This is an example of GSA's intent to remove properties that are no longer needed in the federal inventory. By disposing of these properties, GSA will reduce our federal footprint and create valuable savings for the government."
