GSA pays tribute to Doug Howell

Douglas “Doug” Howell died Jan. 4 at the age of 55. He lived a full life (a non-governmental site) in addition to working for GSA starting in June 1990. He is survived by his wife Theresa, his parents, one brother, a niece, and a nephew. Later this summer, his best friend will host a celebration of great times and memories at a farm just north of Ames, Iowa.

Several current and former GSA employees shared condolences and memories of Howell:

“A little history (as I know it) on Doug: He came on board with Fleet in the late 1980s, before there was a Fleet Service Representative (FSR) position. He was hired on as a Wage Grade Inspector. As Fleet began to develop into the program it is today, Doug was the first to complete and be certified as an FSR in Region 6. He had that rare combination of technical vehicle knowledge/experience, customer service expertise and office software/program mastery. He could handle just about any situation, but if he came to you with something, you knew it must be very difficult or complicated for him not to be able to handle it on his own. He was one of the first to pilot the Husky, which was the precursor to the MC9090 and the FMS2Go app (Fleet employees know what these are). He was a previous member of the National Fleet Service Representative Council, a subject matter expert in Region 6/Zone 3 and was always willing to help or train people. He was a nice, fun-loving, funny guy. Not only will he, as a person be missed, but his knowledge, experience and work ethic will definitely be missed in the Fleet program.” — Debbie Wilson
