Meet the 2021 Region 6 summer hires

Summertime typically means warm weather, extended school breaks, and perhaps some weekend getaways. For these three college students, this particular summer means an opportunity to work for GSA Region 6 and explore a potential career in federal service.

Meet GSA’s Region 6 summer hires for 2021:

Hometown:
Blue Springs, Missouri

: Architecture
Summer Position:
PBS Design and Construction Division

Linville started work at GSA in May on GSA’s Design and Construction software programs. He visits project sites with project managers, as travel restrictions allow.

He says his experience with GSA has been “amazing,” adding that there is “great leadership and very welcoming hospitality.” His hope is to fundamentally understand the design & construction process from start to finish with what he learns here.

He grew up in Blue Springs, Missouri, and attended MCC Longview after graduating high school. He then went on to UMKC. This fall he will attend K-State to finish up his master's degree.

He said he loves to play basketball when he has free time, tech is a huge hobby for him, and he enjoys pursuing a working understanding of other disciplines.

School: American University (Washington, D.C.)
Hometown: Tampa, Florida
Studying: International Studies and Finance
Summer Position: PBS Lease Contract Administration Zone 2

Thang started in lease administration in May. He said it has been a great experience so far, and he has had opportunities to meet many people with different backgrounds. The work is enjoyable, he said, since it feels like he’s contributing to a larger population. His hope is to be exposed to the work culture of GSA while exploring different job avenues.

He recommends visiting his hometown of Tampa, Florida, as there are a “plethora of cool little spots to discover.”

A big basketball fan, he enjoys watching professional basketball and said, “If you're into watching the NBA, reach out to me!” He loves playing pick-up basketball around the streets and meeting people. He also goes on long jogs near the beach in Tampa and said it “takes my mind out of everything.”

He said he hopes to eventually go on a long road trip with friends around America. He said while the driving itself might be tedious, “the memories you make with friends are what make a road trip enjoyable.” He also said he loves to get away from work and school and just explore.

Kierra Taylor

School: Park University
Hometown: Fort Irwin, California
Studying: Fine Arts and Business Management
Summer Position: PBS Leasing Division

Taylor started in June and is working on the Region 6 leasing site. Originally from California, Taylor has lived in Kansas City, Missouri, for the last three years.

She said she is enjoying her employment with GSA and “the people are very friendly, welcoming, and hardworking.” She has been learning many new things, and hopes to continue her education throughout her time here, she said.

“I hope to gain new skills throughout this internship that could help me with my future endeavors — like running my own business — and gain more work experience before I graduate,” she said.

Outside of work and school she said she enjoys making art, reading, watching K-dramas, and hanging out with friends and family. She likes to travel and go sightseeing, and she really enjoys observing nature, she said.

“I think my biggest accomplishment so far would be managing to graduate with my bachelor's degree a year early,” she added. “Hopefully, I can also say without having to come out of pocket for the degree as well (fingers crossed).”

Additionally Taylor would like to travel abroad more to experience cultures outside of the United States, she said. Places she’d like to visit include Paris, Tokyo, and Seoul, Korea.
