PBS Director Cy Houston to depart GSA

A director with nearly 35 years is leaving GSA to join the U.S. District Courts, Western District of Missouri, as project manager at the Charles Evans Whittaker U.S. Courthouse in Kansas City, Missouri.

Beginning August 2, Region 6 Public Buildings Service Facilities Management Division Director Cy Houston will be the tenant representative for the Courts on GSA’s estimated $57 million project. The project will replace the building’s curtain wall system and complete roof upgrades, among other improvements.

“I’ve had a blessed career with GSA and have no complaints or regrets,” he said. “I have worked with so many wonderful people — both here in Region 6 and across the country. It has truly been a great experience.”

Houston began his career with GSA Region 6 nearly 35 years ago as a mechanical engineer intern. He served as a design engineer and project manager for 11 years and a branch chief and project executive for eight years. For the past 16 years, he has been a PBS director, overseeing three different divisions and serving as acting PBS regional commissioner from 2012 to 2014.

“Cy leads with integrity, vision, thoughtfulness and intentionality, and is always committed to excellence and improvement,” said Regional Commissioner Kevin Rothmier. “We will miss his leadership, and his many friends and co-workers across the organization will miss his presence and counsel.”

“Cy is a great friend and work colleague,” said Acting Regional Administrator Mary Ruwwe. “He was fun to travel with as we walked many miles together in D.C.! I have a tremendous amount of respect for Cy and wish him the best in his newest venture!”
