Deputy Regional Commissioner Janet Schweer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Janet Schweer has been selected as the new deputy regional commissioner of Region 6’s Federal Acquisition Service, permanently filling the role vacated by Sharon Henry in October.

Schweer joined GSA Region 6 as a contract specialist intern in 2005. She then spent nine years in the Heartland Acquisition Center as contract specialist, contracting officer, and supervisory contracting officer. In 2014, Schweer was detailed to the Building Maintenance and Operation strategic sourcing program and oversaw the award of Phases I and II of the solution, which earned a Best in Class designation. In 2017, she became the HAC deputy director.

“Janet has strong oversight experience in acquisitions and has led many complex procurements,” said Regional Commissioner Mary Ruwwe. “She has solid knowledge of our organization and will bring a detailed viewpoint of acquisitions.”

As HAC deputy, Schweer said she previously worked at times with all of the FAS divisions here, and she is looking forward to supporting them more closely in her new role.

“I am very excited about the new role,” Schweer said. “As a journeyman contract specialist, I learned a lot about acquisition oversight and compliance from Sharon Henry and many wonderful mentors in FAS. The federal acquisition environment is constantly changing, and we are always learning and improving. We have a wonderful team in the Heartland Region that is innovative and collaborative, and I know we will challenge ourselves to continue providing our customers with the services and products they need to meet their missions.”

Schweer’s new role begins Dec. 1.
