GSA to Auction Vacant Parcel at the Denver Federal Center

DENVER -- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is proceeding with the sale of 59 acres of vacant land located at the Denver Federal Center (DFC) in Lakewood, Colorado.

The auction sale started on Monday, March 15, 2021. Bidders have the opportunity to make bids on the 59-acre parcel, which is zoned for Transit-Oriented Development. GSA auctions are open to anyone interested in purchasing surplus government real estate and attract a national market of land developers and international investors. All that is required to start bidding is a monetary deposit, the amount of which is posted on the online auction site, and to fill out a 1-page Bid Form that is kept confidential by GSA.

This auction supports GSA’s goal of reducing the federal government’s real estate footprint.  It is the largest sale in the City of Lakewood since the 2007 transaction that led to the development of St. Anthony Hospital and the West Corridor Light Rail Line.

“The sale of this property will provide a spark of energy for the City of Lakewood, especially coming out of a COVID-19 slump for retail and commercial businesses, transforming underutilized federal real estate into a transit-oriented development that will spur economic growth,” said Tanisha Harrison, GSA acting Regional Commissioner for the Public Buildings Service. “This approach is part of a long term master plan for the DFC and we envision that it will benefit the community in the same way as the 2007 land sale that led to the development of a regional hospital and transportation district.”

The parcel fronts the southside of West 6th Avenue and is east of Union Boulevard. Lakewood’s RTD light rail Federal Center Station adjoins the property to the south, which is just across West 2nd Place from St. Anthony Hospital.
