Department of Health and Human Services Fishers Lane Ribbon Cutting

Speaking to an afternoon gathering of highly distinguished guests and elected officials from throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area, former Regional Administrator Julia E. Hudson brought greetings and extended congratulations on behalf of the Region on the ribbon cutting of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Fishers Lane Building in Rockville, Maryland.

(Pictured left to right) Tom Malone, Liz JohnsonTransformation of the former Parklawn Building into the recently christened Fishers Lane Building presented NCR with an exceptional opportunity to partner with the Department of Health and Human Services in consolidating 4 leased locations into the new, sustainability designed building, and as a result, reducing HHS’ real estate footprint by a whopping 300,000 square feet.  In addition, the partnership’s successful effort helped to save valuable taxpayer dollars in years to come. 

Beginning with GSA’s Solicitation for Offers in 2008 and a fifteen-year requirement for close to 1 million rentable-square footage, GSA awarded the lease in 2011 with the final phase delivery of a full-scale renovation by 2016. Through the incredible teamwork of developers JGB, Gensler and Davis, renovation phases were reduced from three to two, and the building delivered one year early – providing yet another example of transit-oriented and economic development consistent with GSA’s mission and goals.
