Constructed in 1931, the Flint Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse was designed by James A. Wetmore, Acting Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury.

Public access

Visitors must undergo security screening and present a valid identity card (see Real ID) before gaining access to the building. Cell phones, cameras and recording devices are prohibited.

Parking and public transportation

Private parking garages, surface lots and two-hour street parking are available nearby. A public transit center is located three blocks east on 2nd Street and operated by the Flint Mass Transit Authority.

The Flint Federal Building houses the U.S. District Courts, Magistrate Courts, Attorneys, Marshals Service, Probation and Pre-trial Services, Trustees and the IRS.

Building history and recent renovations

Originally constructed in 1931 as a U.S. Post Office, the Flint courthouse is a concrete-reinforced structure that features a Beaux-Arts-style Mankato limestone exterior, decorative spandrel panels and a stylized eagle above the front entrance. Recent projects include installation of an energy-saving boiler and chiller and renovations to the fire alarm system and lobby.
