Administrator Roth Highlights GSA as Economic Development Catalyst at Southeast D.C. Residential/Retail Grand Opening
GSA, Congressmember, D.C. Mayor join Forest City, Inc. to announce opening of The Arris
WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Administrator Denise Turner Roth will join Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Forest City Washington, Inc. President, Deborah Ratner Salzberg for a ribbon cutting ceremony at The Arris, a mixed use apartment building at the Yards designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
GSA played a critical role in transforming the area into a thriving residential and commercial community. The redevelopment is a public private partnership between GSA and Forest City, was enabled by the Southeast Public-Private Development Act of 2000. The collaboration illustrates GSA’s commitment to work with states, localities and the private sector to serve as a catalyst for community economic development in the nation’s capital, and across the country.
“Leveraging the presence of the federal government as a catalyst for community economic development is at the heart of my vision for our agency’s future,” said GSA Administrator Denise Turner Roth. “Our cooperation with Forest City on this project since 2003 serves as a model for this vision, and we look forward to another decade of working with them and achieving much more.”
“How terrific it is to see a wasteland transformed into The Yards,” said Congresswoman Norton. “Forest City has been a model master developer for this ambitious project. I look forward to working with Forest City President Deborah Ratner Salzberg and GSA until this new community becomes a jewel on the Anacostia River.”
“Creating and preserving affordable housing is a top priority for the District of Columbia," said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “Through our private partnerships, we are adding 66 new affordable units to the burgeoning Navy Yard neighborhood. Together, we will ensure that all residents can afford to live in our great city.”
“Arris is the third residential building to be completed at The Yards,” said Forest City President Deborah Ratner Salzberg. “Its impressive array of amenities and finishes, along with the wonderful waterfront, city and ballpark views take living at The Yards to a whole new level. This is the latest result of a highly productive public—private partnership between GSA, the District of Columbia and Forest City,” she added.
