Multiple Agencies Collaborate to Stand Up COVID-19 Vaccination Site in Auburn

It was all hands on deck recently at the Northwest/Arctic Region campus in Auburn, Washington, when an area was set aside to stand up a COVID-19 vaccination site.

Leaders from federal, state, and local government agencies worked together to add drive-in vaccination lanes to the Auburn General Services Administration site to augment the already existing COVID-19 testing lanes.

GSA worked with regional partners to section off an area of the 129-acre campus for COVID testing in the fall of 2020. Now, leaders have added lanes for drive-in vaccination focused on the most vulnerable in our communities - those age 75 and older.

“The General Services Administration is proud to continue its partnership with our regional and local government agencies to vaccinate members of our communities. This combined effort is vital to containing the virus, saving lives, and is an example of federal, state, and local governments working together for the benefit of its citizens,” said Chaun Benjamin, Public Buildings Service Regional Commissioner, Northwest/Arctic Region.

A second walk-in vaccination site was set up in Kent, Washington, just north of the GSA campus. King County Public Health received enough vaccine doses from the state to begin serving the two sites with 500 doses per day, six days a week. These sites will position King County to be able to quickly scale up vaccination efforts and serve the broader community when more vaccines become available.

Leaders who worked on this project praised the efforts of everyone involved to pull off such a large undertaking so quickly. At a recent press conference announcing the vaccination site, officials thanked GSA for their role in this important partnership.

“The amazing work and partnership of our federal, and state leaders to get this vaccination site up and operational as quickly as possible has been an honor to watch,” said Auburn Mayor, Nancy Backus.

King County Executive Dow Constantine echoed those thoughts. “This is all-hands-on-deck, coordinating County government with partners across the region to stand up community vaccination sites.”
