From the Desk of PBS Regional Commissioner Joanna Rosato
As we close the books on a very busy 2023, we have much to celebrate in Mid-Atlantic PBS!
We celebrate our resilience, joining forces with the GSA Southeast Sunbelt Region to repair significant hurricane damage at the Alton Lennon Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Wilmington, North Carolina. Together we’ve restored this important asset as a vital contributor in the community.
We celebrate the spirit of collaboration as we worked closely with the Courts to deliver a newly renovated District Clerk’s office at the James A. Byrne U.S. Courthouse in Philadelphia. The redesigned, streamlined office offers improved flexibility and functionality, with ample space for both collaborative and focused work in one, contiguous suite.
We celebrate renewed vitality at the Albert V. Bryan U.S. Courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia, as we completed the first of a three-phase project to restore and improve the condition of the Courthouse courtyard. We look forward to continued progress!
We celebrate the inclusion of American visual arts in federal architecture. This fall, we installed an eight-painting series by Claire Sherman titled “Trees and Vines” in the new Sylvia H. Rambo U.S. Courthouse in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This landscape series, inspired by local plants and natural forms native to Harrisburg and surrounding counties, provides a meaningful connection between the courthouse and the community which it serves.
We celebrate the innovation of our Green Proving Ground researchers. We invite you to learn about their recent testing of automated building envelope sealing, showing the potential to increase airtightness of an already airtight building envelope by more than 50%.
We celebrate the depth and expertise of our professional GSA team, welcoming Elliot Doomes as our new Public Buildings Service Commissioner this fall and promoting several familiar faces within our leadership team. We’re excited to announce Helen Berger as our new Portfolio Management Division Director and Steve Dunn as our new Regional Chief Engineer in the Design and Construction Division. Within our field operations, we welcome Dave Peterson as our new Operations Manager for the Harrisburg Property Management Section in the Pittsburgh Field Office, Kyle Semmel as our new Operations Manager for the Pennsylvania and Delaware Property Management Section in the Delaware Valley Field Office, and Randall Vickery as our new Construction Services Manager in the Delaware Valley Field Office.
Our continued success in the year ahead will require a careful approach and diligent planning, especially when it comes to managing project costs in this challenging environment. We invite you to join us for our cost estimating webinar on January 18, where we’ll discuss cost management as it relates to the project lifecycle, as well as new trends and resources GSA is using to improve our cost estimating.
While the weather outside may be frightful, the warm sunshine of June will be here before we know it. June 2024 brings with it the U.S. Postal Service deadline for agencies to migrate to Intelligent Mail Indicia compliant mail meters. In this Focus edition, we discuss how GSA can help you get ready.
2024 is shaping up to be another very busy year with many new opportunities to explore. I can’t wait!
