GREENVILLE, S.C. – The family and friends of the late Gov. Carroll Campbell joined the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to break ground on the new Carroll A. Campbell U.S. Courthouse today in Greenville, South Carolina.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, Rep. William R. Timmons, GSA Administrator Emily Murphy and Mayor Knox White, along with several other local elected officials and community leaders, joined judges from the District of South Carolina and to kick off the project to build the 193,000-square-foot facility.

“A core part of GSA’s mission is to deliver value through real estate to support the critical missions of our partners across the federal government,” said Murphy. “We are proud to partner with our colleagues in the judicial branch, Congress and leaders in the Greenville community as we begin work on this state-of-the-art facility that will soon be home to the federal courts here and an important fixture in the fabric of downtown Greenville.”

Once complete, the new courthouse will provide seven courtrooms and nine judges’ chambers. In addition to the U.S. District Court, the new facility will also provide workspace for the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services System, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and a federal Public Defender’s Office.

Brasfield & Gorrie of Birmingham, Alabama, leads construction on the $105 million project, which is scheduled for completion by spring 2021. HBRA Architects Inc. serves as lead architect for the new courthouse.
