Federal budget funds $40 million for critical upgrades to Paducah’s Federal Courthouse

ATLANTA, Georgia – The 2024 funding bill recently signed by President Biden includes a $40.5 million investment in the historic U.S. Federal Building and Courthouse in Paducah, Kentucky. The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will use the $40.5 million to update and improve the building’s security features and operations, modernize the building’s operating systems, and provide seismic upgrades.

The funding also will allow GSA to integrate new technologies into the building that will improve environmental performance, promote occupants well being, and support climate and sustainability goals.

“Strategic capital investments like this are important investments in our nation’s federal buildings,” said GSA Region 4 Administrator, Jason Shelton. “They also benefit local communities by creating good-paying jobs, stimulating local economies, and contributing to neighborhood revitalization.”

The Georgian Revival Style federal building and courthouse was built in 1938 and in 1985 was designated a contributing structure to the National Register of Historic Places Paducah Downtown Historic District.

“As steward of this historic landmark, GSA is committed to protecting and preserving the federal building and courthouse for future generations. This project also highlights the importance we place on ensuring that our Federal personnel and customers are kept secure and safe. We look forward to working with our partners at the U.S. District Courts as we begin planning for these important upgrades,” said Shelton.
