The Omaha-Lincoln Federal Executive Association selected GSA’s Zorinsky Switchgear Flood Response Team as the winner of their annual Norma Kolbe* Team Award.

In addition, the FEA recognized Project Manager Gary Stuckenschmidt with a nomination for Employee of the Year in the Professional/Scientific category.

Zorinsky Switchgear Flood Response Team

GSA’s team of Field Office Director Jeff Warinski, Deputy Director Dan Rankin, Administrative Specialist Martha Myles, Contracting Officer Justin Panasiuk, Project Manager Richard Wiggins, Project Manager Gary Stuckenschmidt, Building Manager Terry Morgan, and Building Management Specialist Charles Woodring received the FEA award for quickly returning the building's flood-damaged electrical switchgear to service.

On Feb. 10, 2020, fire alarms alerted building managers, maintenance staff, and the local fire department to a flood in the building’s electrical vaults. A water leak originating from outside the building left more than 10 feet of water in the basement causing significant damage to the switchgear.

The team used emergency generators to restore the building’s heat, elevators, condensation pumps and access card system — allowing tenants to return in two days. Power to the building was fully restored on Feb. 18, 2020.

Gary Stuckenschmidt

Stuckenschmidt’s nomination for the Professional/Scientific award is a result of his work in the development and training of GSA’s national cost management tool, his efforts managing 18 projects valued at $705,000, and his work on the Zorinsky switchgear restoration project.

*Norma Kolbe was an executive secretary for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and past Omaha-Lincoln FEA president. The FEA named the team award in honor of her service to the Omaha community and the Combined Federal Campaign.
