President Biden’s Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Proposes Investments in Georgia and Kentucky Buildings

ATLANTA - The Biden-Harris Administration announced today that the President’s Budget for Fiscal Year 2024 includes investments in the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center in Atlanta, Ga. and the Federal Building & U.S. Courthouse in Paducah, Ky. The Budget details a blueprint to grow the economy from the bottom up and middle out, lower costs for families, and more.

The Budget proposes investments in the American people that will help lay a stronger foundation for shared growth and prosperity for generations to come.

“The President’s Budget reflects smart investments that will help GSA make cost-saving upgrades to federal buildings, bolster the nation’s cybersecurity, and improve how the government delivers digital services to millions of Americans,” said GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan. “In addition, for the first time ever, the President’s Budget includes a provision that will guarantee full access to the Federal Buildings Fund while preserving Congress’s discretion to decide on and authorize investments - this is a game-changing provision that will enable GSA to modernize and consolidate the federal footprint, saving taxpayers millions and creating good-paying jobs in local communities.”

In the Southeast U.S., the President’s FY 2024 budget request for GSA includes:

Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center | Atlanta, Georgia | $70,200,000
This $70.2 million project will modernize the building's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and electrical systems. The project will improve the operation of the building and provide more suitable office space for the federal agency tenants. This project presents job opportunities for HVAC and electrical contractors.

Federal Building & U.S. Courthouse | Paducah, Kentucky | $40,479,000
The Georgian Revival Style federal building and courthouse was built in 1938 and in 1985 was designated a contributing structure to the National Register of Historic Places Paducah Downtown Historic District. This $40.5 million investment will modernize the building’s operating systems and provide seismic upgrades. GSA will use this opportunity to integrate new technologies into the building that will improve environmental performance, promote occupant well being, and support climate and sustainability goals.

“Strategic capital investments like these two projects are important investments in our nation’s federal buildings,” said Jason Shelton, GSA’s Regional Administrator for its Southeast and Southwest regions. “They also benefit local communities by creating good-paying jobs, stimulating local economies, and contributing to neighborhood revitalization projects in both Atlanta and Paducah.”
