Recognizing Government’s Identity Management Experts

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we often forget to acknowledge the people who work behind the scenes.

Do you know the sound director of your favorite TV show? Or the engineer who helped design that new intersection? It’s easy to only acknowledge the visible, and forget that the reason we reach great milestones--like implementing 2-factor authentication security measures--came from a huge effort by individuals behind the scenes.

Today, in honor of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, we want to acknowledge the team behind the scenes that helps to ensure that the right individual is accessing the right resource, at the right time, for the right reason. The Federal Identity, Credential and Access Management (FICAM) team in GSA’s Office of Government-wide Policy provides guidance, tools and support for ICAM implementation to federal agencies. They also chair the Federal Chief Information Officer (CIO) Council ICAM Subcommittee, and oversee and support the Federal Public Key Infrastructure (FPKI) and Shared Service Provider Program, including co-leading the interagency FPKI policy authority in the Federal CIO Council.

To translate policy into process, the team developed the FICAM Playbooks, which are hosted on GitHub. These playbooks provide common patterns to help you properly implement and execute ICAM at your agency. Watch this video tutorial to see how you can contribute to the FICAM Playbooks.

The team also shares resources and tools on IDManagement.gov, where you can find information on how to buy, sell or build ICAM products and services, or manage your agency’s identity management program.

Federal employees can join the ICAM Subcommittee (ICAMSC), a community of FICAM professionals. For more information and for ways to get involved in the FICAM community, visit IDManagement.gov/community/.
